From Thursday, March 21 – Saturday, March 23rd the ResCA Guatemala team participated as sponsors for AgriTrade, the largest International Agricultural trade show, in Antigua, Guatemala. This trade show brings together agricultural buyers, companies and agricultural producers and organizations, like TNC and partners, who are promoting specific agricultural products.
In 2019, TNC played a key role in positioning the issue of climate change resilience within the Central American agriculture sector and the importance of implementing a Healthy Agricultural Systems approach in Latin America. ResCA Guatemala’s sub-coordinator Juan Carlos Godoy of TNC Guatemala gave a keynote about the situation with climate change, agricultural production and value chains on the opening slate of the conference.
On Friday, March 22nd the ResCA Guatemala team, including ResCA Guatemala’s coordinator Jorge Cardona of TNC Guatemala and representatives from CDRO Association, the COINACHI cooperative (AgExport), and other local producers from the ResCA project were on hand to showcase their work to buyers and interested stakeholders. The booth also hosted an interactive station piloting ResCA Guatemala’s new virtual reality course, which teaches local communities how to implement climate-resilient practices such as soil management during the dry season or water capture systems, to adapt during the dry seasons. These courses will be finalized over the coming months and will be piloted with local communities in the Central and Western Highlands of Guatemala in July, 2019.
The booth was visited by Guatemala Finance Minister and US Guatemalan Ambassador on Friday.
